White House memo confirms Trump's preventive MRI was 'perfectly normal'

On Monday, the White House published a new memo indicating that President Trump underwent preventive cardiovascular scans during his October medical exam. The memo, authored by Trumps physician, Sean Barbabella, addresses questions surrounding the limited disclosure of the imaging procedure, which was not initially shared after his visit to Walter Reed Military Medical Center.

The document notes that advanced imaging was performed because men in his age range benefit from a thorough review of cardiovascular and abdominal health. The memo confirms that the results of Trumps cardiovascular imaging were perfectly normal, and his abdominal scans were also perfectly normal.

According to the memo, this comprehensive evaluation is typical for a presidential physical at Trumps age and affirms that he remains in excellent overall health. The White House had previously been hesitant to provide further specifics regarding the scans. Public awareness emerged only after an impromptu comment Trump made to reporters on Air Force One in October.

After the visit to Walter Reed, outside medical experts questioned the lack of detail provided by the White House. Trump himself stated on Sunday that he would release the results, admitting he did not recall which part of his body had been scanned. If you want to have it released, Ill release it, Trump told reporters, adding, I have no idea which area was scanned. It was just an MRI. Not the brain, because I took a cognitive test and aced it.

Trumps medical history has often been private, with critics accusing him of obscuring details about his health. Earlier in the year, scrutiny arose over online images showing swollen legs and a bruised hand, which the White House later explained as chronic venous insufficiency and a bruise caused by frequent handshakes.

Medical experts note that abdominal MRIs are common in VIP or concierge care to examine organs or screen for cancers. Jeffrey Kuhlman, a former White House physician for three presidents, stated via email that the doctor ultimately chooses tests the patient consents to, adding that releasing the results of normal heart and abdominal MRIs should satisfy transparency regarding the findings.
