Bomb threats received by Schumer's New York offices

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced that three of his offices in New York were targeted with bomb threats on Monday morning. The locations affected include Rochester, Binghamton, and Long Island.

Schumer shared on the social media platform X that law enforcement informed him about the threats, which were sent via email. The messages carried the subject line "MAGA" and originated from an address claiming the 2020 presidential election, in which President Biden defeated former President Trump, was "rigged." These claims echo statements made by Trump during his speeches to supporters prior to the January 6, 2021, Capitol incident.

According to Schumer, both local and federal authorities responded immediately, conducting comprehensive security sweeps of the affected offices. He confirmed that all staff members are safe and expressed gratitude for the authorities swift and professional efforts to maintain safety and security for New Yorkers visiting the offices.

A representative for the U.S. Capitol Police declined to comment, citing restrictions on discussing member security. Efforts to contact the Rochester and Binghamton police departments for further information are ongoing.

Schumer emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, "As I have said many times, these kinds of violent threats have absolutely no place in our political system. No oneno public servant, no staff member, no constituent, no citizenshould ever be targeted for simply doing their job."
