Fox News physician attempts to justify Donald Trump's drowsiness by likening him to Thomas Edison

During a White House cabinet meeting on Tuesday, President Donald Trump appeared visibly drowsy, sparking commentary from Fox News comparing him to Thomas Edison. Trump, 79, had reportedly stayed up late the previous night on Truth Social, posting over 150 updates.

Observers noted that Trumps eyes were closed for several minutes, including during Secretary of State Marco Rubios remarks on the conflict in Ukraine. At other points, the president expressed frustration over media scrutiny of his health, criticized Minneapoliss Somali community, thanked Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for keeping the hurricanes away, and discussed topics ranging from military actions in the Caribbean to White House interior design.

Later, on Foxs The Ingraham Angle, senior medical analyst Dr. Marc Siegel downplayed concerns about Trump resting his eyes, accusing the media of double standards compared to coverage of President Joe Biden. Siegel praised Trump for maintaining his alertness despite occasional brief naps.

Host Laura Ingraham defended the president, noting that even she occasionally closes her eyes when conversations drag on, emphasizing Trumps reportedly minimal sleep needs. What President Trump does on a daily basis, if you sleep three or four hours a night, youre likely to close your eyes sometimes, regardless of age, she stated.

Siegel added, Thomas Edison believed in the 10-minute nap. Imagine if he hadnt taken thosewould we have the inventions we do today? Edison, known for short naps to stimulate creativity, never advocated sleeping during meetings.

Trump has previously been mocked for appearing to nod off, earning nicknames such as Dozy Don after falling asleep at public events. He was also observed dozing during his Manhattan criminal trial in May 2024 while managing multiple legal challenges.

Supporters, including former Attorney General Pam Bondi, have highlighted Trumps reputed ability to function on minimal sleep, noting that his schedule and productivity are unusually demanding for someone of his age. Trumps physician had previously reported that he averages four to five hours of sleep per night.
