Trump Inserts Bizarre Election Falsehood into Christmas Tree Celebration

During the 2025 National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, President Donald Trump unexpectedly launched into a tirade about his baseless claims of a manipulated election. The event took place on Thursday evening at the Ellipse, marking what seems to be Trumps first return to the site since the January 6, 2021 rally that led to the Capitol riot.

Minutes into his speech, Trump deviated from the holiday message to address the election claims that have been widely debunked, for which he had previously pardoned those involved:

His word and his example call us to love one another, to serve one another, and to honor the sacred truth that every child is specially made in the image of God. For 250 years, think of it, our country is 250 years, this is a big year. Im so happy that our presidency was delayed. Otherwise, Id be sitting home watching television, not being invited. I would be extremely upset. (LAUGHTER). And remember, we have not only the 250 years, but we have this is a big one. We have the World Cup and we have the Olympics coming up all within this four-year period. See, if they didnt rig the election, I would have been sitting. Can you imagine? I wouldnt have any of them! And I probably wouldnt have been invited! I would have been very upset by that. But America has stood tall in part because millions of our citizens have heeded that call

Trump has long maintained, without evidence, that the 2020 election was stolen from him. This assertion has been consistently refuted by official state results, numerous court rulings, and even criticism from some of his own allies, as Joe Biden won by a decisive electoral margin.
