Big Update on Shedeur Sanders' Future with the Browns

Shedeur Sanders' Role With Browns Receives Major Update

Shedeur Sanders is set for the third start of his NFL career when the Cleveland Browns (3-9) host the Tennessee Titans (1-11) this Sunday. The rookie quarterback is 1-1 in his initial two starts, securing a 24-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12 before suffering a 26-8 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13. Across those games, Sanders completed 27 of 45 passes for 358 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

This matchup against Tennessee will be a key benchmark for the fifth-round draft pick, who will inevitably be compared to 2025s first overall pick, Cam Ward, the struggling Titans quarterback.

Entering Week 14, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Sanders as the starter for the Titans game, choosing him over fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, who holds a 1-5 record in six starts this season. Stefanski emphasized that the starting quarterback decision will continue to be made on a week-to-week basis.

Despite the cautious approach from Stefanski, Cleveland.coms Mary Kay Cabot told 92.3 The Fan that she expects Sanders to remain the starter for the final five games of the 2025 season. According to Cabot, this stretch will give the team enough information to determine if a quarterback needs to be drafted next season.

"I think its going to be Shedeur the rest of the way because I think they do see something in him, and they want to know do they need to draft a quarterback in April," Cabot said.

Cabot added that she wouldnt be surprised if Gabriel gets another start, but she does not anticipate it. She also believes Gabriel will remain with the team in 2026.

If Sanders continues as starter, he will face four challenging opponents following his rookie duel with Ward this weekend. Showing enhanced accuracy and efficiency along with his confident play could solidify his position as the Browns starting quarterback in 2026 and beyond. For now, Sanders is confirmed to start on Sunday.

The Browns-Titans game kicks off at Huntington Bank Field at 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FOX.
