The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially released six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay, creating potential opportunities for teams such as the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and Detroit Lions.
According to reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Slay and the Steelers reached a mutual agreement to part ways. Slay, who signed a one-year contract with Pittsburgh during the offseason, did not complete the full season with the team.
Steelers and CB Darius Slay have mutually agreed to part ways, said Slays agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey. Slay is eager to continue his career and will consider offers from other teams. His time in Pittsburgh has concluded.
The 34-year-old cornerback has had a challenging 2025 season, allowing a 70% completion rate, three touchdowns, and a 126.7 passer rating when targeted. Despite this, Slays extensive experience, including 176 career starts over 13 seasons, makes him an attractive option for several franchises.
The NFC East appears particularly interested. The Dallas Cowboys, who have been without Trevon Diggs for most of the season, could use a veteran presence to strengthen their secondary. Even with Diggs expected to return in Week 14, Slay could serve as valuable depth and insurance for the cornerback position.
The Philadelphia Eagles are another likely candidate. They need a stronger option opposite Quinyon Mitchell, as Adoree Jackson has struggled at the No. 2 cornerback spot. Slay previously spent five years with Philadelphia, earning three Pro Bowl selections and playing a key role in their Super Bowl LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Additionally, the Detroit Lions might pursue Slay following the season-ending injury to Terrion Arnold. Adding Slay could provide an experienced replacement and bolster defensive depth for head coach Dan Campbells team.
With his combination of veteran experience and past success, Darius Slay is expected to generate interest from multiple playoff-contending teams, giving him a competitive market if he clears waivers.
