Texas secured a win over Texas A&M at home the day after Thanksgiving, but it was not enough to break into the playoff field in the latest rankings released by the committee. Their postseason hopes now depend on the outcomes of major matchups during Championship Saturday. Even with favorable results, a jump into the playoff bracket remains uncertain.

While there are scenarios where Texas could rise in the final rankings announced on Selection Sunday, these scenarios would largely depend on unexpected losses by higher-ranked teams. Entering the final week, the Longhorns aimed to enhance their playoff resume, but stiff competition among the top-15 teams left them just outside the qualifying range.

The 2025 College Football Playoff bracket and complete bowl schedule will be finalized on Selection Sunday, December 7, airing on ESPN at 11 a.m.
