Trump criticizes Colorado Governor as a 'SLEAZEBAG' and demands the release of Tina Peters

Former President Donald Trump harshly attacked Colorado Governor Jared Polis, calling him a SLEAZEBAG, while calling for the immediate release of Tina Peters, the ex-Mesa County clerk serving prison time for election-related offenses.

Peters, who was convicted last year for her involvement in compromising Mesa Countys voting systems, is currently serving a nine-year sentence in a womens prison in Pueblo. Her actions were linked to efforts to support Trumps claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.

In his statement, Trump described Peters as an elderly woman and a cancer survivor being targeted by Democrats. He accused Polis of mismanaging the state and wrote that Peters had been jailed for over a year, with eight years remaining. Trump emphasized that Peters work involved safeguarding election records, which he claims was her federal obligation, and demanded her release, exclaiming: FREE TINA!

Colorado officials have responded that the president has no authority to intervene, as Peters was convicted under state law. Only Governor Polis has the power to grant a pardon or commute her sentence, and his office has not indicated any intention to do so. Republican prosecutors led the original case, and state election officials maintain that Peters claims of voter fraud are unsubstantiated. They contend she compromised election security by allowing unauthorized access to the voting systems.

Despite legal limitations, Trump continues to publicly advocate for Peters as her appeal slowly progresses through the courts.
