US Marine dies following incident with 'tactical vehicle' at Camp Pendleton

A U.S. Marine lost his life on Wednesday, December 3, during a training operation in Southern California, military authorities confirmed.

The event occurred around 1:45 p.m. local time and involved a member of the I Marine Expeditionary Force, according to a Marine Corps statement.

The Marine succumbed to injuries sustained in a "tactical vehicle incident during routine training" at Camp Pendleton. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The Marines identity will remain confidential until 24 hours after the family has been notified.

A large-scale, two-week training exercise including thousands of Marines from California and Arizona began on December 3, led by Camp Pendleton's I Marine Expeditionary Force, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. It has not been confirmed whether the deceased Marine was part of this exercise.

Camp Pendleton is situated approximately 40 miles north of San Diego.

This tragedy follows a previous incident nearly two years ago, when a U.S. Marine was killed and more than a dozen others injured after an amphibious combat vehicle overturned during a training session at the base.
