In the heart of Kent, England, there exists a unique haven where the mornings begin with the resonant roars of big cats. Spanning 36 acres, this sanctuary provides a safe home for 40 rescued lions and tigers brought from various parts of the world.
Located in Smarden, the facility is globally acknowledged for its commitment to the protection and rehabilitation of wild cats. According to the sanctuary's website, its work is crucial for safeguarding some of the world's most threatened and celebrated species from disappearing.
Cameron Whitnall, the sanctuarys managing director, explained to ABC News the core principles guiding their mission. "Our approach is built on five pillars: education, animal welfare, conservation, rescue, and breeding," he said.
Whitnall emphasized that the sanctuary strives to recreate natural conditions for its residents. "We aim to make life here engaging and challenging because survival in the wild is never easy," he noted.
The sanctuarys online description highlights its dedication to providing both high-quality care and a fulfilling life for its animals. "We focus on enriching the lives of our cats physically and mentally, offering a diverse diet, various forms of stimulation, and a serene environment, ensuring their well-being without disrupting their peace," the site states.
