Fact Check: NASA did not make a 'bombshell' admission that the moon landing was a hoax

In late 2025, claims surfaced online suggesting that NASA admitted it "never went to the moon." This assertion is false.

In December 2025, a post on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that NASA had revealed "the mother of all bombshells," asserting the 1969 moon landing was staged. The post included a 12-minute video and a Facebook link to an article that largely consisted of a transcript of that video.

Despite these claims, no evidence supports the idea that NASA ever stated it did not land on the moon. The video and article provided no verifiable sources, quotes, or official statements from NASA confirming such an admission.

Images featured in the video thumbnail were unrelated to any claim of a fake moon landing. One image came from a 2013 NASA news conference about the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program, where the moon was mentioned only in the context of future exploration technologies. Another image originated from a 2008 advertisement for the Swedish National Debt Office and had no connection to NASA.

The video may have loosely referred to a September 24, 2025, news conference with the Artemis II crew, which will be the first mission to send humans to the moon while others are simultaneously in low-Earth orbit. During that event, Artemis II commander Reid Wiseman said, "This is the first time we're going to send humans to the moon and [have] humans in low-Earth orbit." The statement referred to the simultaneous nature of the mission, not a denial of previous moon landings.

NASA has repeatedly confirmed the authenticity of the Apollo missions. On October 30, 2025, acting NASA administrator Sean Duffy tweeted, "We've been to the Moon before 6 times!" in response to a public figure questioning the moon landings.

The claims originated from The People's Voice, a rebranded version of a site known for spreading misinformation. Both the video and linked article were designed to mislead and contained no factual basis.

NASA continues to maintain that the Apollo moon landings occurred as documented, and ongoing Artemis missions aim to expand human presence on the moon.
