Funding allocated for crime prevention in playing fields and church

Hull will see improvements in security at two parks and a church, thanks to funding aimed at reducing anti-social activity. Hull City Council's Crime Prevention Fund has provided grants for King George V and Victoria Dock playing fields to install protective fencing. St Vincent de Paul RC Church on Queens Road will also receive financial support for CCTV and an alarm system.

Additional funding will be distributed to several schools throughout Hull to supply bicycle lights and reflective backpacks, enhancing student safety.

The Victoria Dock project will receive nearly 8,000 to erect 261 feet (80 meters) of steel fencing along the final unfenced boundary of the pitch on South Bridge Road. According to a council report, persistent anti-social behaviour had caused disturbances for local residents, especially during summer nights when unauthorized access to the field was common.

Established in 2022, the Crime Prevention Fund provides grants up to 25,000. Councillor Ted Dolman stated, "Residents of Hull deserve safe and welcoming communities. The Crime Prevention Fund helps increase security and addresses anti-social behaviour where it happens. Making our neighborhoods safer and cleaner benefits communities throughout the city."
