Iran launches ballistic and cruise missiles at practice targets in vicinity of Persian Gulf

Iran carried out a series of missile launches targeting simulated positions near the Persian Gulf on Friday, according to reports. The exercise, intended to signal readiness against external threats, involved both ballistic and cruise missiles.

The maneuvers, organized by Irans Revolutionary Guards Navy, began on Thursday in the Strait of Hormuz and extended into the Gulf of Oman. Iranian state media reported that a significant salvo on Friday included Qadr 110, Qadr 360, and Qadr 380 cruise missiles along with ballistic missiles, all aimed at offshore targets.

Television footage broadcasted in Iran displayed the missiles taking off and striking their designated targets, highlighting the precision and scope of the operation.

State media emphasized that the drills showcased the "resolute spirit and resilience" of Irans naval forces in the face of threats. This is the second large-scale military exercise following the June conflict with Israel, which resulted in nearly 1,100 Iranian casualties, including military and scientific personnel, while missile strikes in Israel killed 28 people.

Since the conclusion of the conflict, Iran has consistently asserted its preparedness to respond to any potential Israeli attack. Earlier in August, the country conducted its first naval exercise in the region since the war.

Operational control in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz primarily lies with the Revolutionary Guard, whereas Irans regular navy oversees the Sea of Oman and waters beyond. The Strait of Hormuz remains a strategically critical passage, handling roughly 20% of the worlds oil shipments.
