King Charles' Goddaughter and Royal Wedding Bridesmaid India Hicks Discloses Skin Cancer Diagnosis

India Hicks, the goddaughter of King Charles, has disclosed a recent diagnosis of aggressive skin cancer. The 58-year-old designer and former model underwent surgery in Florida and received clearance from her doctor just days before Thanksgiving.

Hicks wrote on her Substack that she had been expecting a quiet week at home when the unexpected news arrived. The test results from a recent skin-cancer operation came back, and the news was unsettling, she shared. Its not dramatic, but enough to make your world feel slightly off-kilter.

The cancer was found in a rapidly progressing patch on her lower calf. Hicks described her initial reaction as a mix of calm and quiet anxiety: You go about your day, make tea, answer emails, while a small voice wonders what if its worse than we think?

As a member of the royal familys extended circle, Hicks has strong ties to British royalty. Her mother, Lady Pamela Hicks, a former lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth II, is a first cousin of the late Prince Philip. India Hicks herself was a bridesmaid at Charles wedding to Princess Diana in 1981.

Hicks spends her time between the Cotswolds in England and Harbour Island in the Bahamas. She found a doctor in Miami to perform an urgent Mohs surgery, a precise technique that removes cancerous skin layer by layer. The procedure was relatively comfortable, she said. The hardest part was the waitingfeeling normal while knowing everything depends on whats happening elsewhere.

Fortunately, the results were positive, and Hicks was cleared of cancer, allowing her to enjoy Thanksgiving with her family. She highlighted the joy of being surrounded by loved ones: I love the gathering, friends around the table, the loud laughter, the happy chaos.

Hicks is married to David Flint Wood, with whom she has five children: Felix, Wesley, Amory, Conrad, and Domino.

This news comes a year after King Charles and Queen Consort Kate Middleton publicly revealed their own cancer diagnoses. The King began treatment for a benign enlarged prostate in February 2024, and Princess Kate underwent chemotherapy, announcing remission in January 2025. Prince William spoke candidly about the challenges his family faced during this period, calling it the hardest year and reflecting on the resilience it required.
