Loganair has submitted applications to run flights between Guernsey and Jersey, as well as between Guernsey and Southampton. The Scottish carrier took over these routes as emergency services following the collapse of Blue Islands last month and has now formally requested licences after discussions with the States of Guernsey.
Luke Farajallah, CEO of Loganair, emphasized that the inter-island connections "are more than just convenient; they serve as vital links for families, businesses, healthcare, and local organizations."
He noted that there is "plenty of capacity" for multiple carriers to operate these routes, which would "enhance long-term stability, reduce costs, and ensure essential connectivity is maintained."
The Transport Licensing Authority of Guernsey is currently reviewing applications for licences for key routes, including those to and from Gatwick, Alderney, and Southampton, along with the Jersey route scheduled to commence on 15 January.
Loganair confirmed it would not seek financial assistance from the States to operate these services and reported receiving an "extremely positive" response to its proposals.
Meanwhile, the government-run airline Aurigny has also provided interim services and plans to apply for a licence to operate the routes starting in January.
Previously, Blue Islands had secured 8.5m in loans from the States of Jersey during the Covid-19 pandemic, with 7m still unpaid as of June.
