A man in New Zealand faces theft charges after allegedly ingesting a highly valuable piece of jewelry inside a local store. The item in question is a pendant inspired by the James Bond film Octopussy, valued at $19,300.
The incident occurred on Friday, November 28, when authorities were called to Partridge Jewellers in central Auckland around 3:30 p.m., following reports that the suspect had swallowed the Faberg pendant. The pendant features 183 white diamonds and two blue sapphires and, when opened, reveals an 18-carat gold octopus. This limited edition piece, linked to the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy, is one of only 50 numbered creations worldwide, measuring 8.4 cm in height and crafted with hand-painted green enamel.
The 32-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the incident. Upon his arrest, he received a medical evaluation, and a police officer has been assigned to continuously monitor him while in custody. As of now, the pendant has not been recovered.
In addition to this case, the man faces previous charges for allegedly stealing an iPad from the same store on November 12 and taking cat litter and flea treatment from a private residence the following day. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 8.
