Ocean Infinity to conduct search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370

Ocean Infinity is preparing to restart its mission to locate the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 on December 30, over ten years after the aircraft vanished above the southern Indian Ocean. Malaysias Ministry of Transport confirmed that the British marine robotics company will lead the underwater search expedition.

The operation is planned to last 55 days and will be carried out in phases, as reported by The Guardian. Earlier this year, in March, Ocean Infinity began an attempt to locate the wreckage but was forced to halt due to unfavorable weather conditions.

This search follows a no find, no fee agreement established between the Malaysian government and Ocean Infinity last year. If the aircraft is discovered, the company stands to receive a $70 million payment, according to The Guardian.

Flight 370, a Boeing 777 carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared on March 8, 2014, while traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Satellite tracking indicated the plane deviated from its planned route and headed into the southern Indian Ocean, where it is believed to have crashed. Despite an extensive international search, no conclusive wreckage was found, although debris eventually reached the coasts of East Africa and surrounding Indian Ocean islands.

The passengers included nationals from China, Malaysia, Canada, the United States, and several other countries. Families of the missing have expressed gratitude and hope that this renewed effort may finally provide closure. Weve never stopped hoping for answers, and knowing the search will continue gives some comfort, said Danica Weeks, whose husband, Paul, was among those on board.
