Resumption of search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 set for Dec. 30

The Malaysian government announced on Wednesday that the hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 will resume later this month after being paused in March due to adverse weather conditions.

According to a statement from Malaysia's Ministry of Transport, operations are set to recommence on December 30 and will proceed intermittently. The search will concentrate on areas identified as having the highest likelihood of locating the missing aircraft, in accordance with the agreement signed between Malaysia and Ocean Infinity on March 25, 2025.

Ocean Infinity, a marine robotics firm, was engaged to carry out a 55-day search for the plane at a cost of $70 million, payable only if the aircraft is successfully found. The Boeing 777 is believed to have gone down in the southern Indian Ocean.

The ministry's update follows confirmation from Ocean Infinity that it is ready to resume the seabed operation, which had been halted earlier this year due to weather complications. The upcoming search will cover an estimated 15,000 square kilometers of the Indian Ocean.

This marks at least the third major effort to locate Flight MH370, which vanished shortly after departing Kuala Lumpur on March 8, 2014, with 239 passengers and crew on board.
