Sea Lion Pup casually walks into a New Zealand pub as if ready to enjoy a drink

In a surprising twist straight out of a joke, a young sea lion wandered into a pub in New Zealand, leaving staff and customers amazed. Initially mistaken for a dog, the little marine visitor soon revealed its true identity with its flippers and playful movements as it headed straight for the restroom.

Attempts to gently guide the pup back outside proved tricky, as he cleverly slipped away from well-meaning patrons. Social media quickly caught on, with the pub joking that the establishment had received the seal of approval from their uninvited guest.

Fans of the charming sea lion were quick to share their affection. Some pointed out his distinct external ears, confirming he was indeed a sea lion, not a seal. Others playfully noted the pups interest in the pubs food offerings. Comments ranged from light-hearted complaints about the interruption to admiration for the little visitors curiosity and cuteness.

Eventually, rangers were able to safely coax the pup into a dog crate using salmon, and he was returned to a nearby island unharmed. Observers were delighted by the happy ending for the adventurous youngster.

New Zealand is home to both seals and sea lions, which can sometimes confuse onlookers. According to the countrys Department of Conservation, true seals lack external ears, cannot rotate their hind flippers forward, and have fur on both sides of their flippers. This pups appearance and behavior confirmed he was most likely a New Zealand Sea Lion, also known as Pakake or Whakahao.
