A charming market town, often called the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, has been recognized as the happiest place to reside in the United Kingdom, according to a recent survey. Skipton earned praise for its abundance of natural landscapes, welcoming community, and convenient access to key services like schools.
The survey, carried out by property platform Rightmove, noted that while Skipton excels in quality of life, it lags slightly in opportunities for employment and high-demand jobs.
Skipton led the rankings ahead of Richmond upon Thames, Camden in London, fellow North Yorkshire town Harrogate, and Woodbridge in Suffolk. Patrick McCutcheon, an estate agent with Yorkshire-based firm Dacre, Son & Hartley, described the town as offering everything you could want, with immediate access to the Yorkshire Dales in a picturesque setting. He also highlighted its easy connections to Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, and the M65 motorway, making travel for both work and leisure straightforward.
The town is noted for its cobbled streets and historic medieval castle. Skipton Building Society, one of the largest employers in the area, has offices close to the castle. Ian Rigarlsford from the society emphasized that the towns sense of community and welcoming atmosphere make it a particularly rewarding place to live and work.
He explained that the friendliness of residents and easy access to green spaces contribute to an unmatched quality of life. Its no surprise Skipton has been named the happiest place to live, he said, as its a town where people genuinely care for one another.
