Judge Andrew Napolitano has issued a stern caution regarding Pete Hegseth following reports that the Secretary of Defense approved an assault on suspected drug traffickers in September. Napolitano spoke on Newsmaxs National Report, strongly condemning Hegseths actions.
It pains me to say this, especially after collaborating with Pete Hegseth for seven or eight years at Fox News, Napolitano remarked on Tuesday. Ordering survivors, who are legally entitled to rescue, to be killed constitutes a war crime. There is no legal justification for such an act.
A report from The Washington Post stated that Hegseth allegedly gave a verbal directive to kill everyone on a Caribbean boat. The U.S. Department of Defenses Law of War Manual clearly outlines that firing on shipwrecked individuals is illegal.
Following the initial attack, a subsequent strike targeted survivors clinging to the burning vessel, an action Hegseth attributed to a Navy admiral. Napolitano emphasized, Everyone involved, from the Secretary of Defense to the admiral and those who executed the orders, should be prosecuted for war crimes, particularly for the deaths of the two people in the water trying to survive.
Napolitano further stressed that the situation has transcended politics, noting, The killings have escalated beyond control. Other critics have described the second strike as sheer murder, though Hegseth maintains a different perspective. In a statement on X last week, he claimed the operation aimed to halt lethal drugs, destroy narco-boats, and eliminate narco-terrorists, dismissing the Posts account as fabricated, inflammatory, and derogatory.
