'Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’ Earns Over $7 Million in Thursday Previews – Box Office

The latest installment from Universal and Blumhouse, Five Nights at Freddy's 2, produced on a $36 million budget, is aiming to energize the post-Thanksgiving box office, which typically sees a slowdown. During Thursday previews, the sequel, directed once again by Emma Tammi, earned $7.2 million. This figure represents a 30% decline compared to the $10.3 million garnered by the original film.

The first movie, adapted from the 2014 video game, attracted a highly devoted fanbase. Despite the actors' strike preventing cast promotions, the film achieved an impressive $80 million opening, even with simultaneous streaming availability on Peacock. Unlike its predecessor, the new sequel is a full theatrical release.

Thursday previews began at 2 PM across 3,000 locations. The audience for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 skewed young, with 80% under the age of 25. Males made up 57% of viewers, while females accounted for 43%. Analysts noted that the female demographic may not significantly grow over the weekend.

Looking ahead, projections for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 this weekend range from $35 million to over $40 million. Disney's Zootopia 2, in its second weekend, is expected to lead with around $50 million.
