Adaptations of Video Games into Films and TV Shows: Including 'Five Nights at Freddy's 2'

The horror sequel Five Nights at Freddys 2 arrives in theaters this Friday, expanding the story based on Scott Cawthons game franchise about a night guard confronting murderous animatronics at Freddy Fazbears Pizza. Megan Fox portrays Toy Chica, while Josh Hutcherson returns as Mike, who enters the abandoned restaurant searching for his younger sister. The film also features Elizabeth Lail, Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard and McKenna Grace.

"Fallout" Season 2

The second season of the post-apocalyptic adventure premieres Dec. 17 on Prime Video. Walton Goggins returns as the Ghoul, teaming up with Lucy (Ella Purnell) to locate her missing father. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy continue to lead the series based on the 1997 video game.

"Devil May Cry" Season 2

The new season of the animated adaptation is scheduled for release on Netflix in 2026. The story follows Dantes ongoing battle against demonic threats, including a confrontation with his brother Vergil. The voice cast features Johnny Yong Bosch, Scout Taylor-Compton and Hoon Lee.

"Return to Silent Hill"

The adaptation of Silent Hill 2 opens Jan. 23, starring Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson. James travels to the haunted town after receiving a mysterious letter from Mary, facing monstrous creatures and psychological horrors.

"Super Mario Galaxy Movie"

The big-screen version of the 2007 Nintendo title launches April 3. Chris Pratt and Charlie Day voice Mario and Luigi, with Jack Black as Bowser and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach. Brie Larson and Benny Safdie also join the cast.

"Resident Evil"

A new film adaptation debuts Sept. 18 under the direction of Zach Cregger. The story honors the franchises lore while introducing a fresh narrative separate from the original game characters and earlier live-action versions.

"Street Fighter"

Paramount releases a new installment on Oct. 16. The film, set in 1993, follows Ryu and Ken Masters as they enter the World Warrior Tournament. Cast members include Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji and Jason Momoa.

"Mortal Kombat 2"

Arriving Oct. 16, the sequel continues the saga of Earthrealms fiercest fighters. Karl Urban stars as Johnny Cage alongside Hiroyuki Sanada, Martyn Ford and Tadanobu Asano.

"Minecraft Movie 2"

The follow-up to the 2024 feature is expected in 2027. Filmmakers tease a new journey that will test the characters creativity as they explore a rebuilt world.

"Sonic the Hedgehog 4"

The next installment of the franchise is slated for spring 2027. The previous film featured Jim Carrey, James Marsden and the voices of Ben Schwartz and Keanu Reeves.

"Legend of Zelda"

The live-action version of the classic 1986 game debuts May 7, 2027. Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth portray Zelda and Link as production continues under director Wes Ball.
