Individuals contemplating a run in next year's Jersey general election now have the opportunity to join a new program designed to provide insights into the responsibilities of States Members. The six-week course will cover the roles elected officials may assume and offer an overview of how the government and assembly operate, according to Vote.je, the official guide to elections on the island.
Participants will also receive practical advice on public speaking, engaging with the media, understanding election advertising regulations, and maintaining online security.
The course is scheduled to start on 28 January, and those interested are encouraged to register via email at contact@vote.je.
Jenny O'Brien, head of digital and public engagement at Vote.je, explained that the program is intended to support those weighing the "significant choice" of running for public office. She noted, "Candidates often encounter unfamiliar situations, such as participating in hustings. We aim to give prospective candidates a clear understanding of the process to help them navigate the election period and beyond."
The upcoming general election in Jersey is planned for 7 June 2026.
