The individual accused of placing two pipe bombs outside the Democratic and Republican National Committee offices on January 5, 2021, reportedly told investigators he was "disappointed" with the outcome of the 2020 election, according to U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro.
Brian Cole Jr. also admitted to discarding the distinctive shoes that had been a focus of the investigation, Pirro said. "He mentioned that he had those sneakers and got rid of them after placing the pipe bombs," Pirro explained in an interview with ABC News.
When asked if Cole had made a full confession, Pirro declined to provide further details, emphasizing the strength of the evidence: "The combination of video, forensic analysis, physical items, and receipts makes it clear that this case can be proven to a jury beyond a reasonable doubt."
Cole, 30, was arrested on Thursday after a prolonged investigation identified him as the suspect. He appeared in court on Friday without entering a plea.
The investigation had heavily focused on a pair of Nike Air Max Turf sneakers captured in CCTV footage. According to Pirro, after reviewing three million pieces of data, the evidence unmistakably points to Cole as the person responsible.
"The suspect's cellphone pinged at the exact locations shown in the video," Pirro said. "Everywhere he went, the cell tower data matched his movements. It is indisputable that he was the individual placing these devices."
Pirro confirmed that Cole has spoken to authorities and expressed dissatisfaction with the 2020 election. "He was frustrated with multiple aspects of the election process," she said.
However, it remains unclear whether Cole supports either President Donald Trump or former President Joe Biden. "He targeted both the Republican and Democratic National Committee offices. He was deeply disillusioned with the system as a whole," Pirro noted. "As a prosecutor, my role is to establish his intent in placing these pipe bombs, and the evidence clearly demonstrates that."
Pirro added that the investigation is ongoing, with search warrants and additional information collection continuing. She assured the public that the case will proceed based solely on evidence and facts. "Everyone will see the evidence, the facts, and the truth as this case moves forward. The law demands it, and we will deliver," she said.
