Advancement expected for 187-home development plans

Plans to construct 187 residences in Swadlincote are moving closer to approval. Planning officers have recommended that South Derbyshire District Council councillors endorse the proposal, provided that discussions with the developer result in an increase of affordable homes from 19 to 25.

The project, proposed by David Wilson Homes, is planned for a site along Swadlincote Lane. Council documents describe the development as offering "essential housing" in a sustainable area.

According to the application, the development would feature a mix of one- to four-bedroom homes. The plans also include central green space with a play area, aiming to foster "healthy communities."

The council report notes that 36 objections have been submitted, highlighting concerns about the loss of green space and potential traffic increases. Nonetheless, the report emphasizes that the project would include conditions and developer contributions to reduce any "perceived negative impacts."

Councillors are scheduled to review the plans on 9 December at the Civic Offices in Swadlincote.
