Anonymous donation of £50k offered to match-fund support for homeless individuals

A charity dedicated to helping homeless individuals has received news of a possible 50,000 enhancement to its urgent fundraising initiative. Shrewsbury Ark revealed that an anonymous benefactor has pledged to match donations up to this amount as part of its Save the Ark campaign.

Director Anton Goodwin expressed gratitude, stating, "This is an extraordinary act of generosity, and we are profoundly thankful to our anonymous supporter."

The organization reported raising 30,000 during the first month of the campaign and encouraged the public to consider monthly contributions or donations as alternatives to Christmas gifts.

The Ark offers day services for Shrewsburys homeless population, including sleeping arrangements, hot meals, and access to bathrooms and laundry facilities during its operating hours.

The fundraising drive began in October, with the charity expressing concern over its ability to continue operating through the winter due to rising expenses and limited income. Apart from some council-backed winter support, the organization relies almost entirely on charitable contributions.

Goodwin emphasized, "Maintaining the Arks services is crucial to provide essential support and opportunities for individuals to improve their lives."

Currently, the charity is assisting nearly 30 homeless individuals, including four women. "We are deeply thankful to everyone who has contributed to this campaign. The communitys support has been invaluable in securing our immediate financial stability," he added.
