Former casino to be transformed into swimming pool complex

Former Casino May Be Converted Into Swimming Facility

A long-vacant casino in Middlesbrough, closed for nearly a decade, may soon be transformed into a swimming venue. Swim, a company specialising in lessons for children under the age of 12, has submitted an application to Middlesbrough Council seeking approval to repurpose part of the former Rainbow Casino at Teesside Park.

According to the planning documents, the proposal aims to provide convenient access to swimming lessons for families living in nearby residential areas. The casino, which ceased operations in 2016, has remained empty since that time.

The larger complex currently accommodates Ninja Warrior UK, located directly beside the section proposed for redevelopment. The plans outline the creation of a new entrance at the front of the structure and the removal of rear access doors, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Staff have noted that rising operating expenses pose a risk to the future of the planned pool.
