Over £400k allocated for bus station research

Bradford may soon see a new bus station after the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) allocated 400,000 to study potential locations. The bus section of Bradford Interchange was shut in early 2024 when a concrete slab fell into the basement car park, raising safety concerns.

Following an investigation, it was determined that the station could only reopen safely with significant safety measures. However, the 1970s-era interchange is considered outdated and will likely need replacement in the near future.

A report from WYCA revealed that 431,060 has been set aside to "explore options for an improved bus infrastructure offer in Bradford." Options may include constructing one or more new bus hubs or upgrading the existing bus station.

The delegated decision was made on 27 October and will be discussed at an upcoming authority meeting on Thursday. This type of decision is made by staff members rather than elected officials. The total cost for a new station has not yet been determined.

WYCA stated that a full assessment of the need for a new bus station has been completed, though further details are pending.
