Renewed Lease for Recycling and Waste Disposal Site

A recycling and waste management facility on the Isle of Man has secured a new 25-year lease, set to begin in April 2026. The Southern Civic Amenity Site (SCAS), supported financially by contributions from all five local authorities it serves, confirmed it received the lease from the Port St Mary Commissioners.

Managed by a board of representatives serving three-year terms, SCAS provides services to the local authorities of Castletown, Arbory & Rushen, Malew, Port Erin, and Port St Mary. Plans are now underway to enhance the site's entrance, layout, and security, while it will remain at its current location on Castletown Road, Port St Mary.

Mike Norrey, chairman of the Southern Civic Amenity Site Board, said: "We are thrilled to have finalized the agreement to maintain the site at its current location. Being the oldest site on the island, it has undergone significant upgrades in recent years to better serve the community. This lease also allows for a modest increase in the annual rent."

The rental adjustment will contribute to the overall operational costs of the site, funded by the five local authorities under SCAS's jurisdiction. Additional improvements include work on the side entrance to make vehicle access easier and the installation of a new weighbridge for commercial vehicles.

Jean Teare, chairwoman of Port St Mary Commissioners, described the news as "very positive," adding: "The site is heavily used, and we are eager to see the upcoming improvements implemented in the near future."
