Alec Baldwin Credits His Kids with Saving His Life After the "Rust" Shooting Tragedy

Alec Baldwin has shared that his children played a crucial role in helping him recover following the traumatic events on the set of Rust. The 67-year-old actor discussed the impact of his family during an appearance on The Adam Friedland Show, revealing how his kids helped him navigate a very difficult period in his life.

Baldwin, who is a father of eight, explained that since the accidental shooting on the Rust set in 2021 and the subsequent legal proceedings, he has been largely staying at home and not engaging in much outside activity. He emphasized that his children were a lifeline during this time.

"Im 67 years old, I have a three-year-old, and a lot of kids at home ... and they saved my life," Baldwin said. "You reach a point where you think less about where you get love and more about where you give love. One of the hardest things is not having anyone to give love to." He added, "I have so much love to give, and having all these kids around every day has been life-saving."

Following the incident on Rust, Baldwin faced a trial in New Mexico for involuntary manslaughter. The tragic accident involved a prop gun that discharged, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza, who recovered. Baldwin faced the possibility of prison time during the proceedings.

Baldwin and his wife Hilaria share seven children together: daughters Carmen Gabriela (12), Mara Luca Victoria (4), and Ilaria Catalina Irena (2); and sons Rafael Thomas (10), Leonardo ngel Charles (9), Romeo Alejandro David (7), and Eduardo "Edu" Pao Lucas (5). Baldwin also has a daughter, Ireland (30), with ex-wife Kim Basinger.

Hilaria Baldwin, 41, reflected on the emotional strain the legal battle placed on their family during the premiere of TLCs The Baldwins. She emphasized the importance of protecting their children from the stress of the situation. "We are blessed to have our kidsthey bring us joy. At the same time, we want to ensure they can just be children and not carry our burdens," she said.

She added, "Life has changed forever. Halyna lost her life in an unimaginable tragedy, and a child lost their mother. This will always be a part of our family story." Hilaria described the challenge of coping with fear, anxiety, and sleeplessness while trying to maintain normalcy for their children. "We look at our kids and see how hard were trying to create happiness for them, even if we are masking our own struggles," she explained. "Every family faces hard times, and we do our best to provide love and joy for our children."
