Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney shared with PEOPLE how their connection grew while working on the upcoming thriller The Housemaid, in theaters December 19. Seyfried expressed her support for Sweeney, saying, "It's easy to support you," highlighting the warmth between the co-stars.

In the film, Sweeney plays Millie, a new live-in maid whose ideal job quickly reveals the darker sides of her wealthy employers, Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). The two actresses bonded fast while portraying characters with intense and often conflicting dynamics.

"We connected over personal experiences," said Seyfried, 40, noting that she grew to care deeply for Sweeney, 28, during filming. Seyfried joked about giving plenty of unsolicited advice, and Sweeney responded with appreciation, though lightly warning to "take it with a grain of salt."

Showing her affection, Sweeney revealed a hidden Polaroid of the two from the set inside her phone case. "This is how much you have changed my life this year and I love you," Sweeney shared. Seyfried was touched, joking about returning the gesture with a four-leaf clover from her farm.

The movie sees Millie's dream job take a dark turn as she faces the increasingly erratic behavior of Nina. Sweeney said she enjoyed watching Seyfried "go wild" during the intense scenes, and Seyfried found it "so cathartic" to break things while in character. "We dont often get films where we can release that kind of rage, and it was a dream," Seyfried said, adding that their moments of fury and revenge were rare and freeing. Sweeney noted her excitement about movies that embrace female anger fully.

Director Paul Feig, filming in New Jersey, praised the actresses' chemistry and depth. "Even in the editing room, I discovered layers in their performances I hadnt noticed on set," he said, emphasizing he would happily work with the cast again.

In a heartfelt Instagram tribute for Seyfrieds birthday on December 3, Sweeney called her a sister and expressed gratitude for their friendship. Seyfried described the gesture as incredibly meaningful, noting Sweeney brought cupcakes and a special gift that left her emotional.

Sweeney smiled and said, "I hope you like it," to which Seyfried replied, "Youre thoughtful as hell. Its been a dream working with you, and I feel appreciated." The Housemaid opens in theaters on December 19.
