Approval Granted for Replacement of Peterhead Academy

Councillors have given the go-ahead for a multi-million pound project to build a new campus for Peterhead Academy. The development in the Aberdeenshire town has been in planning for several years.

Originally, officials aimed for students to move in by mid-2026, but the timeline has been extended. Aberdeenshire Council now anticipates that both students and staff will be able to use the new Kinmundy Road campus starting in August 2028. Construction is slated to begin in April of next year.

The Buchan area committee approved the proposal during their meeting on Tuesday.

Councillor Dianne Beagrie, chair of the committee, commented: We are thrilled to have endorsed the plans for this highly anticipated academy. Councillors are excited about the transformative benefits it will bring to learners, staff, families, and the wider Buchan community.

Earlier this year, plans to replace two primary schools and a special education school in Peterhead were abandoned due to budget constraints. The proposed upgrades for Dales Park, Meethill, and Anna Ritchie schools were deemed financially unfeasible.

The Peterhead Community Campus Project, which initially aimed to replace all four schools, experienced delays after the preferred construction contractor withdrew last year.
