Cardi B Plans to Keep Things Simple for Her Next Album: 'I'm Just Going to Share It with You'

Despite Am I the Drama? taking seven years to complete and releasing less than three months ago, Cardi B is already envisioning the approach for her upcoming album. On Thursday morning, Dec. 4, she joined X Spaces to discuss her creative process and how fan reactions to her latest work are shaping her future music.

The rapper explained that the songs she stressed over most werent necessarily the ones fans loved. Tracks that came to her effortlessly often resonated better with listeners. For my next project, I just want to create music that makes me feel good, Cardi said. I realize I overthink everything. The songs that were easiest for me are the ones people really vibe with.

Cardi elaborated, Some songs took me nearly two weeks because I wanted them perfect, but the tracks I was more relaxed about are the ones fans enjoy the most. Next time, I just want to go with the flow and release things naturally.

She also revealed that Am I the Drama? initially included more collaborations, but some artists didnt deliver or didnt fit the tracks. Many songs were supposed to have features, but after hearing the verses, I felt some just didnt belong, she said.

Additionally, Cardi discussed how she balances her musics intensity. I tell my engineer some tracks feel too aggressive, and I try to tone it down. I want music that everyone can enjoy, she shared. She noted that if she made music solely for herself, it would lean heavily toward drill or old-school hip-hop influences, reflecting what she grew up listening to.

The rapper addressed misconceptions about her lyrical themes, emphasizing that most of her songs arent focused on sex. People think I rap only about sex, but most of my tracks are about personal experiences and my lifestyle. I just tell my story, she said.

Am I the Drama? debuted in September, earning 200,000 album-equivalent units and topping the Billboard 200 chart. Cardis upcoming album promises a more relaxed, authentic approach, prioritizing ease and enjoyment in the creative process.
