Mens grooming brand Dr. Squatch has recruited the Stranger Things character Murray Bauman, portrayed by Brett Gelman, to reveal hidden truths behind everyday mens hygiene products. This collaboration coincides with the streaming giant Netflixs release of the shows fifth and final season.
Launching on December 5, the campaign features two commercials where Gelman exposes the "Big Soap" conspiracy, highlighting the widespread use of harsh chemicals, synthetic additives, and long-standing misinformation in mens personal care items. True to his Murray Bauman persona, he contrasts this with Dr. Squatchs offerings, which include 98% natural cold-process soaps and aluminum-free deodorants.
Developed by the creative agency Made You Feel and directed by Kyle Beiermeister, the ads pay homage to vintage 1980s marketing, complete with grainy analog visuals and exaggerated, flashing graphics.
John Ludeke, Dr. Squatchs senior vice president of global marketing, emphasized the synergy between the brand and the Stranger Things character. He explained that Murrays mix of chaos and investigative humor perfectly embodies the message Dr. Squatch has promoted for years: being mindful of the ingredients used on ones body.
Gelman added, "If theres one thing Murray Bauman knows, its that cover-ups are everywhere, and apparently Big Soap has been hiding something in our showers for decades. Dr. Squatch helped me expose it and Ive never smelled better while doing detective work."
The Stranger Things-themed Dr. Squatch collection includes four soaps and two deodorants, all packaged with designs inspired by Hawkins, Indiana, and beloved elements from the show. The campaign will be promoted across organic and paid social channels throughout the shows final season and into 2026.
