How The Credits Scene in Five Nights At Freddy's 2 Teases a Third Movie

Warning: This article contains spoilers for "Five Nights at Freddy's 2."

Director Emma Tammis "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" is densely packed with lore from the original video games by Scott Cawthon. Fans familiar with the games will recognize many elements, but newcomers might struggle to follow the intricate storyline. The film features multiple versions of Freddy Fazbear, each governed by unique supernatural rules.

The first "Freddy's" movie introduced William Afton (Matthew Lillard), a serial killer who lured children to his pizzeria and murdered them. Afton often wore a yellow rabbit suit resembling the animatronics he created. This Yellow Rabbit figure plays a crucial role in the lore and is prominently featured in the sequel.

In "Freddy's 2," Aftons daughter, Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail), experiences a vivid dream where she sees her father in the rabbit costume. This occurs while she assists her potential boyfriend, Mike (Josh Hutcherson), and his sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), in avoiding rogue animatronics that have escaped into the streets. The movie concludes with a subtle tease for the next installment, hinting at an animatronic version of the Yellow Rabbit coming to life.

The films mythology is intricate. The animatronics in the first movie are inhabited by the spirits of Aftons victims, allowing them to move and act independently. In the sequel, newer animatronics appear more like advanced AI robots, each seemingly possessing its own personality, but they too become host to a singular ghost, effectively serving as their power source.

The mid-credits scene introduces three intruders breaking into the abandoned pizzeria, which is scheduled for demolition. They find collectible merchandise and a partially damaged Yellow Rabbit animatronic. As they cover it with plastic and leave, its electric eye lights up, suggesting it may be alive.

This hints that the Yellow Rabbit is now possessed by Aftons spirit. The Marionette, another possessed animatronic from the film, may have transferred some ghostly influence to the Yellow Rabbit, setting it up as the primary antagonist for a potential "Five Nights at Freddy's 3." Additional minor animatronics appearing briefly could join the Yellow Rabbit in the next film.

The lore of the franchise is complex, and the sequels could introduce new characters to further expand the storyline. "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" is currently showing in theaters, and fans are anticipating how the third film will develop this elaborate universe.
