Jake Shane addresses if he would participate in "Dancing with the Stars" after being recommended by Alix Earle (Exclusive)

Jake Shane is sparking curiosity about a potential appearance on Dancing with the Stars. Following a suggestion from his friend and fellow influencer Alix Earle, who encouraged him to join her during season 34, Shane is now reflecting on the idea of stepping onto the dance floor himself.

Attending the Gotham Awards in New York City, Shane spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about his career plans. Time will tell, he said when asked about participating in the show. He also noted that, despite public speculation, no official invitation has been extended to him. They haven't made the offer yet, so I can't even say yes or no, he explained.

While Earle impressed audiences throughout her season, often topping the leaderboard, Shane admits he might struggle with the competition. I think it would be too funny. I think it would be a joke. I don't think I'd be able to do it. I think I will be laughing is what I think will happen, he shared.

During Earles season, Shane attended as part of the audience, supporting her on One Hit Wonder Night on September 23. Alongside professional partner Val Chmerkovskiy, Earle made it to the final five couples and performed in the season finale on November 26. She competed against gymnast Jordan Chiles and pro Ezra Sosa, Traitors star Dylan Efron with Daniella Karagach, actress Elaine Hendrix with Alan Bersten, and wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin with Witney Carson. Ultimately, Irwin won the coveted Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy, with Earle finishing in second place.

For now, Shane is focused on other projects. He recently made his acting debut in Wishful Thinking alongside Maya Hawke and Lewis Pullman and is set to star in a Hulu series based on his own life. What I can hope for is that it's going to be very funny, he told PEOPLE, adding that he is working with an incredible, incredible team.

In November, Shane discussed the upcoming series, revealing that he is reuniting with Hacks writer Genevieve Aniello after a three-episode arc on HBOs fourth season of the show earlier this year. I could not be happier with how it ended up. Its very different than shooting a TikTok on your phone, he said.

Reflecting on his time on Hacks, Shane credited the experience with introducing him to television and teaching him valuable lessons about set etiquette. I think it taught me how to behave on set because everyone on that set leads with such a good example of creating such a good environment, he said. They showed me, if I were to ever have a set, what I would want that to look like. I would want it to look exactly like the Hacks set.
