Man facing charges for 'life-altering' attack

A 33-year-old man has appeared in court accused of causing life-altering injuries in an alleged attack. Arthur O'Brien is charged with grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon following an incident on High Street, Wincanton, last Sunday.

The victim, a man in his 20s, continues to receive treatment in hospital for injuries described by Avon and Somerset Police as life-changing.

After his initial court appearance at Yeovil Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, O'Brien was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear next at North Somerset Courthouse on 9 January 2026.
