Jessica Simpson has stepped away from her signature blonde look, revealing a rich new brunette style. The singer and actress entrusted her longtime stylist, Rita Hazan, to craft the transformation, now dubbed "hot chocolate brunette."
The warm, multi-dimensional shade was created in Nashville, with Hazan gradually darkening Simpsons hair over several hours to achieve the perfect tone. "We didnt want to go too dark at once, so we slowly deepened the color to get the ideal hue," Hazan explains.
Simpsons shift toward brunette has been gradual. Hazan recalls, "For years, we experimented with various shades of blonde. Recently, we started deepening her dirty blonde toward a richer brunette." Despite the change being bold after so many years of blonde, the process was lighthearted and enjoyable, thanks to the stylists long-standing rapport with Simpson. "We laughed the whole time, except when I needed to concentrate," Hazan says.
During the coloring session, they enjoyed reminiscing while watching Simpsons past holiday performances, adding a nostalgic touch to the makeover.
The new hair color complements Simpsons evolving music style. Hazan notes, "Her latest music has a moody, layered vibe, so the hair needed to reflect that depth and dimension."
Looking ahead, Hazan hints that Simpson might explore even darker shades in the future. "This shade is already deep, but we could go a touch darker while keeping it soft and sexy," she says, cautioning that overly dark tones can feel heavy or aging.
For now, Simpson is thrilled with the change. Hazan describes the update as "a fantastic transformation" and says the singer is loving her new look.
Simpsons shift may signal a broader trend for 2026, with Hazan predicting that many blondes will experiment with darker hues next year. "Rich, warm tones will be popularchocolate browns, golden blondes, and deep auburns," she explains.
For those considering a color change, Hazan recommends regular gloss treatments, deep conditioning once or twice a week, and always using products designed for color-treated hair along with heat protection before styling.
