Leon Thomas album Mutt has been nominated for Album of the Year at the 68th annual Grammy Awards. However, he isnt the first Mutt to reach this milestone. Legendary producer Robert John Mutt Lange has previously earned three nominations in the same category, for his work on Shania Twains Come on Over, the Backstreet Boys Millennium, and Lady Gagas Born This Way.
Interestingly, both Thomas and Lange began their Grammy journeys as songwriters. Thomas won Best R&B Song in 2024 for co-writing SZAs Snooze. Langes first Grammy came in 1992 for co-writing Bryan Adams (Everything I Do) I Do It for You for the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Lange has since added four more Grammys to his collection, including awards for producing Twains The Woman in Me and co-producing Muses Drones, as well as recognition for co-writing Twains hits Youre Still the One and Come on Over.
Lange and Twain first met at Nashvilles Fan Fair in June 1993, married six months later, separated in 2008, and divorced in 2010.
This year, Thomas has received six Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, Best R&B Album for Mutt, and Best R&B Performance for Mutt (Live from NPRs Tiny Desk). Final Grammy voting begins on December 12 and continues through January 5. The 68th Grammy Awards ceremony is set for February 2 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
