In the face of ongoing challenges for the transgender community, pop and R&B icon Mariah Carey is taking action to ensure their visibility and representation. On Wednesday, December 3, GLAAD, a leading LGBTQ+ advocacy group, announced a collaboration with Carey. The singer will auction her sparkling Protect the Dolls jacket to raise funds for GLAADs Trans Media Program.

Carey debuted the vibrant hot pink jacket at the Pride in the Park festival in Brighton, England, on August 2. The jacket displays the phrase Protect the Dolls on its back, a slogan that has long symbolized support for the trans community. While the phrase originated in the ballroom culture of the 1980s, it gained broader recognition in 2025 when designer Conner Ives showcased it on a white t-shirt during London Fashion Week, raising awareness and support for trans advocacy.

Since then, many public figures, including Pedro Pascal, Troye Sivan, Charli XCX, and Addison Rae, have embraced the slogan to show solidarity with the transgender community.

The auction for Careys jacket will start on Monday, December 8, at 3 p.m. ET. All proceeds will directly support GLAADs Transgender Media Program, which works to guide media professionals in accurately covering stories related to the trans community.

Meanwhile, Carey continues to experience a seasonal resurgence on the charts. Her classic holiday single, All I Want for Christmas Is You, recently climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, maintaining its long-standing tradition of chart success during the holiday season since 2019.
