New Civic Plaza and Events Space Planned for Erskine

A new civic plaza, garden, and events venue will be developed in Erskine by the summer of next year. The project will take place on unused land at the Erskine Sports Centre and will offer a communal area for locals, alongside space for events and market stalls. The design will feature a recreational green space, garden, seating zones, natural play elements, and new walking paths linking the town centre with nearby sports and medical facilities.

Local residents and community organizations contributed to the planning process, which marks the first phase of a broader upgrade initiative for the town centre, led by Renfrewshire Council. Several community suggestions have been included in the final design, such as enhanced lighting for pathways, infrastructure for a Christmas tree, and fences and hedges to enclose the area.

Councillor Andy Steel, who heads the council's economy and regeneration policy board, stated, "The new plaza and green space will enhance the area, attracting more visitors and providing opportunities for markets and community gatherings. We are committed to improving all our towns and villages, and this substantial investment will bring positive change to Erskine and its residents."

The development involves an investment exceeding 500,000, funded by Renfrewshire Council, the UK government's Shared Prosperity Fund, and the Scottish Government's Place-Based Investment Programme. The construction contract has been awarded to Covanburn Contracts Limited. Work is set to begin in early January 2026, with the project expected to be completed by the summer.
