During her visit to the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Queen Latifah shared insights about her upcoming life story project and her portrayal of Robyn McCall in The Equalizer.
Latifahs Flavor Unit Entertainment is producing the biopic, which will join the ranks of films highlighting hip-hop legends. Weve joined forces with Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment to bring this vision to life. Ill be one of the first to tell my story in this way. Will Smith is also involved and plays an important role in my narrative, she revealed.
When asked who might take on the role of young Queen Latifah, she emphasized the challenge: Casting will be critical. Ive been in the spotlight since I was 17, and someone will need to capture the different stages of my life.
Reflecting on her rise to fame, she noted the adjustment it required: It felt impossible to measure up to Queen Latifahthe persona had grown bigger than myself. Accepting that reality took time.
Work on the biopic is in progress. Were in the writing phase it will take some time, she said.
Regarding The Equalizer, the CBS series she starred in and executive produced for five seasons, Latifah is taking a moment to relax. However, she left the door open for the characters return: Anything is possible in The Equalizer universe. I infused a lot of myself into Robyn McCall, so there could definitely be new versions of her in the future.
