Natasha Lyonne recently appeared at Deadlines Red Sea International Film Festival Studio to talk about the future of Poker Face and the possibility of passing the torch to Peter Dinklage as the new lead, replacing her character Charlie Cale. While she indicated she could return to the series eventually, it wont happen until she completes a few film projects first.
Earlier reports revealed that Peacock had decided not to move forward with a third season of Poker Face. However, series creator Rian Johnson, along with T-Street partner Ram Bergman, MRC, and Lyonne, are exploring options to continue the show with new buyers, featuring Dinklage in the lead role. The plan includes rotating the main actor every few years.
Speaking as an executive producer on the series, Lyonne shared: I love Dinklage, I love Rian, and well see what happens. I could pop back up. I really need a few years; if I dont make a movie before I die, Ill be very bummed out. So let me just get one feature in the can, and well see.
Beyond television, Lyonne is focusing on her feature directorial debut through Asteria, the AI-focused production studio she co-founded with Bryn Mooser. The project, Uncanny Valley, is an AI-driven film she co-wrote with Brit Marling. She emphasized that the process is meticulous, involving a team of artists refining every visual element, rather than relying on automated AI generation.
Everything Ive done is always sort of a five-year span from inception to the touch-and-go cycle of cast coming together with the budget, Lyonne explained. She also discussed the importance of responsible AI use in filmmaking, highlighting the need for artist protection, copyright safeguards, and ethical oversight. We need hope and new ideas, and to remember that were kind of the architects of this moment, she added.
Regarding Poker Face, Lyonne hinted at a possible return if the show finds a new platform. I love Poker Face. I just would like to do a couple of movies for a second, and maybe Ill see you again, she said.
