Raccoon found unconscious on Virginia liquor store bathroom floor following wild drinking spree

Early Saturday morning, a masked intruder forced entry into a closed liquor store in Virginia, targeting the lower shelves stocked with scotch and whisky. The resulting scene was chaotic: bottles were shattered, a ceiling tile fell, and alcohol spilled across the floor.

Despite the apparent mischief, the culprit wasnt humanit was a raccoon. By the time employees arrived, the animal had exhausted itself and was found asleep on the bathroom floor, clearly the aftermath of its wild spree.

I personally like raccoons, said Samantha Martin, an officer with the local animal control. Theyre amusing little creatures. This one went through a ceiling tile and then completely rampaged through the store, drinking everything in sight.

Martin took the raccoon to the animal shelter, noting that the incident provided plenty of laughter during the day. Just another day in animal control, she commented.

Raccoons are widespread in Virginia, living in forests, parks, and even urban areas. Apparently, liquor stores can become part of their range as well. The Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter praised Martin for managing the situation and confirmed the raccoon had recovered. After a few hours of rest, with no injuries aside from a potential hangover and questionable life choices, he was safely released back into the wild, hopefully having learned that breaking and entering isnt the way to go, the agency said.

This isnt the first unusual raccoon incident this year. In May, a raccoon in Ohio was discovered holding a glass methamphetamine pipe while sitting in a car's driver seat. Authorities noted that the vehicles registered owner had an active warrant and a suspended license.
