Release date update for 'Summer I Turned Pretty' movie by Jenny Han

The story of Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah is set to transition from the small screen to theaters, but the movie is not ready just yet. Jenny Han, the creator and showrunner of The Summer I Turned Pretty, confirmed on December 2 that the film adaptation is underway, though filming has not begun.

The Prime Video series, which has developed a devoted fan base since its 2022 debut, wrapped up its third and final season earlier this year. The story follows teenager Belly Conklin as she spends summers at the fictional Cousins Beach with her family, where she navigates a complicated love triangle involving brothers Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. After the finale of Season 3 in September, Prime Video announced that the story would continue with a feature film penned by Han.

Speaking at TheWrap's Power Women Summit, Han revealed that the film is still in the early stages of production. I just wrote it," she explained. "We have not filmed anything yet." She also confirmed that fans should not expect a release during the holiday season. With 11 episodes this season, filming took most of last year and post-production extended into June, so there simply wasnt time to shoot a full-length movie, Han added.

During the discussion, Han also shared insights into her creative approach, including how she uses music and subtle story elements to enhance the narrative. She noted that much of the shows music was sourced from Taylor Swift, and she personally reached out to Swift for permission to feature her songs, describing it as a meaningful gesture for both herself and the fans.

While specific details about the release date remain under wraps, Hans updates assure fans that the beloved characters will return to the screen in a cinematic experience, continuing the story that captured audiences over the series three seasons.
