Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco emphasizes the importance of bringing a gift when invited to someone's home for a meal. He shared this simple etiquette tip on the December 4 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.
During the December 3 taping, Maniscalco, 52, discussed what frustrates him most in the kitchen while promoting his Hulu special It Aint Right. After guest chef Christian Petroni prepared shrimp parmesan for the segment, Maniscalco didnt hesitate to give his advice.
"Whenever youre invited over for a meal, bring something," he said. "A bottle of wine or a small giftsomething thoughtful."
He noted that when friends ask him what to bring and he replies "nothing," they often arrive empty-handed, which he considers poor etiquette. "A small token is always the right thing to do," he added.
Host Drew Barrymore admitted she often feels unsure about what to bring and sometimes worries she hasnt offered a proper host gift. Maniscalco suggested that gifts dont need to be food-related. "A small candle or something nice for the house works perfectly," he recommended. Petroni agreed, emphasizing that thoughtfulness is what counts.
As the primary cook in his household, Maniscalco understands both sides of hosting. He has said that while he handles most of the cooking, his wife, Lana Gomez, focuses on desserts and baked goods for their family, which includes their children, Serafina, 8, and Caruso, 6. "If I dont cook, basically our family doesnt eat," he joked, adding that Gomez is more of a sweets specialist.
