Warner Bros. Discovery confirms HBO Max will remain after Netflix merger

HBO Max will continue operating even as Netflix moves forward with its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. During a global virtual town hall held for employees, attendees were informed that HBO Max will stay, according to TheWrap.

The meeting, held Friday morning, addressed questions surrounding Netflixs purchase of the company. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav acknowledged that the bidding process had been more public than we would have preferred. He shared that Paramount was the first company to express interest in acquiring WBD. Because it was a noisy process and rumors circulated about a full company sale, other companies also approached us about buying just the studio and streaming divisions, Zaslav explained.

Zaslav noted that the company only finalized its direction regarding the acquisition yesterday. After a competitive contest involving Netflix, Paramount, and Comcast, Netflix emerged as the successful buyer Thursday night, with the deal valued at $82.7 billion. The transaction is expected to be completed within 12 to 18 months.

The acquisition will proceed only after WBD undergoes a division into Warner Bros. and Discovery Global, a process anticipated in the third quarter of 2026.
