Jillian Lauren Shriner, author and activist, has filed for divorce from Scott Shriner, bassist of Weezer, several months after an incident involving a firearm and Los Angeles police. The couple, who have been married since 2005, are now legally seeking separation.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Jillian cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce and is requesting spousal support. Additionally, she has asked the court to prevent Scott from seeking financial support from her. The documents indicate that Jillian is also seeking joint legal and physical custody of their two children, aged 17 and 13.
The couples marital arrangements, including whether a prenuptial agreement exists, remain unclear, and neither party has publicly confirmed the split.
Earlier this year, Jillian drew media attention due to a confrontation with the Los Angeles Police Department. On April 8, police were pursuing three hit-and-run suspects, leading them to Jillians Eagle Rock neighborhood. Video footage captured Jillian exiting her home with a firearm, unrelated to the chase, while wearing a Weezer t-shirt. Officers can be heard instructing her to put the gun down.
During the standoff, Jillian pointed the firearm toward the officers, prompting them to open fire. She was struck in the shoulder. A 911 call released by the LAPD revealed a caller stating that three men were involved and that one had shot Jillian. Jillian herself described the moment, saying she had her gun and was shot after the officer demanded she put it down.
She was arrested on charges of attempted murder of a police officer but was later charged with assault and negligent discharge of a firearm. Jillian avoided jail time after a judge approved a mental health diversion plan. She was also prohibited from owning firearms and ordered to attend therapy, with all charges set to be dismissed upon compliance.
Weeks before the police confrontation, Jillian had undergone extensive cancer treatments, including two consecutive surgeries and a full hysterectomy, which she later shared on social media. She emphasized her recovery and resilience in her posts, encouraging others to reach out if they faced similar experiences.
