Evacuation of Families Due to Kitchen Fire

On Monday afternoon, a mother and her children returned to their apartment on Green Street in St Helier, Jersey, only to discover smoke billowing from their kitchen. A shopping bag left on the stove had started to smoulder, according to the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service.

Fire crews quickly evacuated the building, and several occupants received treatment for smoke inhalation. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

The fire service issued a safety reminder highlighting the risks of using stoves as temporary storage. They warned that leaving items on hob surfaces can ignite if the cooker is accidentally turned on.

Residents are urged to exercise caution in the kitchen to prevent similar incidents.
